Minnesota Burning
On Trump's DOGE cuts that hurt federal firefighting efforts
Minnesota’s Superior National Forest received a $10 million grant in 2024 to cover wildfire prevention efforts, then DOGE delayed funding.
In Firestorm, I wrote about how in the wake of the Great Los Angeles Fires of 2025, the second Trump administration was attempting to “refute, dismantle, or outright eliminate valuable resources within the federal government’s arsenal to communicate about, respond to, mitigate, and prevent disasters.”
Now, parts of Minnesota are burning, and DOGE cuts haven’t helped, as the Washington Post reported.
I spoke with a former wildland firefighter who says the cuts made the fire worse.
